First are some Ruby-Throats in Marshall County, IN around a feeder. There is one immature male with the small red feathers on his lower gorget, along with a couple others, probably females. This was towards the end of their season up north, when the adults (adult males in particular) have already left for migration, so no flashy gorgets. The immature male was very aggressive defending the feeders! The females had to sneak around and eat while he was distracted, so you’ll see them stretching their necks into funny poses to watch for him. The male also perched on a metal decoration that was a bit too big for him, so there are photos with him in a funny perch.
The next gallery is from Indiana Dunes State/National Park. I there was only one immature (male?) Ruby-Throat around a feeder and tree. He was banded on one of his legs, so likely a park resident. Hopefully he is back next year! Again this was when most have already migrated; no adult males.
