This guy comes around often, and he looks different from the others. From the back he looks like an Anna, with his back completely green. Spreading his tail the base is rufous-colored, which Anna’s don’t have. His chest/belly looks like an Anna with the gray dots, but he has rufous (orange-brown) coloring on the edges of his belly and tail feathers. Additionally, he has an Allen’s tail, with rufous at the base of the outer feathers.
The coloring of his gorget (looks black in some photos due to flash) seems to have hints of pink and red/orange, like Anna’s and Allen’s respectively. He looks similar to other observations of a hybrid, that seems the most likely. Hopefully he keeps returning as his gorget grows in with a unique blend of colors. It will also be interesting to see his behavior, mainly if he sings like a male Anna. The two species don’t behave very differently, but the Allen’s might be a bit more aggressive; the Anna song is the one main distinction.
